We feel good about 2017. We made New Year’s resolutions for our diet, bodies, homes, and relationships, and obviously we’re trying to keep our makeup clean and more organized, and we’re trying to keep our skin and hair moisturized and flawless. But we think 2017 is the year of pretty smiles. We think the world could use more kindness and smiling, and since we care about our beauty (surprise, surprise), we figured one way to encourage more smiling, joy, gratitude and kindness is to perfect our smiles—starting with hygiene! So get ready for a clean mouth and a lot more smiling.

Need motivation to stick to your New Year’s resolutions? Check out our Monday Motivation on how to actually keep your resolutions.

To help us keep a clean mouth, we tried a Boka box…and we loved it. Our Boka box made keeping a clean mouth so easy. The Boka box is delivered to your doorstep every three months, and you’ll have the option of choosing from a classic kit (classic toothbrush, natural toothpaste, and mint floss), kids kit (kids size toothbrush, natural toothpaste, and mint floss), or an electric kit (sonicare toothbrush head, natural toothpaste, and mint floss). If you become a subscriber you can customize your box to adhere to your own needs.

Most subscription boxes are a little pricey, but Boka keeps their boxes affordable, and you’ll save money overall on toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. You can choose to pay $14.50 each 3-month period, or you can pay $50 for an annual subscription ($12.33 per shipment). Don’t want to commit? All of Boka’s products are available for purchase separately here.

Boka’s natural toothpaste doesn’t use harmful ingredients, so its formula is free of fluoride, SLS, triclosan, parabens, and artificial ingredients. The Boka classic toothbrush has bristles made from Binchotan activated charcoal, which naturally reduces odor-causing bacteria while giving your teeth the soft, gentle cleaning they need. The tapered shape of the brushes allows for a deeper clean to tackle plaque hiding behind your gum line.

Boka has also partnered with Surge to donate a percentage of their profits to help Surge bring life-sustaining water to those in need.

We’re starting our clean mouth resolution with the basics—brushing and flossing. For a clean mouth, make sure you’re brushing twice a day for two minutes. Use a pea-size amount of toothpaste. For optimal dental hygiene, angle your toothbrush at 45 degrees to your teeth and gums. Don’t forget to clean the tops of your teeth and your tongue. If you really want a clean mouth, cleaning your tongue is just as important as cleaning your teeth.

Next, make sure you floss once a day to remove microorganisms between your teeth. Flossing will also ensure fresher breath. To make the most of your flossing, wrap approximately 18 inches of floss around your middle or index fingers with two inches of space in between. Use your thumbs to guide the floss between your teeth.

Replace your toothbrush every three months, or when your next Boka box arrives. It is generally recommended to see your dentist once a year, but for the best smile, visit your dentist every six months.

Lastly, we tried Boka’s cocorinse ($20 for a two-week supply, or $37 for a one-month supply). Made with 100% organic, cold-pressed virgin coconut oil and organic peppermint and spearmint oils (for minty freshness), this rinse makes daily oil pulling easy and effective. Ditch your chemical-ridden mouthwash and use cocorinse for fresher breath, cleaner, brighter teeth, and better overall health. This ancient Ayurvedic technique is developing scientific clout for its natural ability to remove bacteria from your mouth.

What do you think? Will you make a resolution for a clean mouth and brighter smile this year? Let us know in the comments!
