It is no secret that getting enough sleep impacts our quality of life. Sleep helps our minds and bodies reset from the day before and prepare for the day ahead. Without enough sleep, our bodies become sluggish and incapable of functioning at an optimal level. A lack of sleep can also contribute to acne, weight gain, and depression. Sleep doesn’t just influence our productivity, it is actually essential to living a healthy life. A healthy life is a beautiful life, so get good rest! Below are keys to getting your best beauty sleep.

Turn off electronics 30 minutes before bed

I know, I know. This one is hard. We have all become so accustomed to our phones and tablets that it can seem impossible to put them away as we are unwinding. However, the use of electronics before bed can stimulate your brain and make it harder for you to fall asleep. Instead of scrolling through Instagram or Facebook before bed, maybe try reading a book instead. Think about it—this will stimulate your brain in an entirely different way that will prime your mind for some creative and often insightful dreaming.

Drink water

Hydration is a key to a healthy life, and it actually helps us achieve our best beauty sleep. By drinking a glass of water before bed, it helps your body gets rid of toxins. Water is known to help clear up troublesome skin and is all around good for you. To really achieve optimal results, also drink a glass of water when you wake up.

Develop a ritual

Sometimes people have a hard time falling asleep simply because they find themselves preoccupied with mindless tasks. Others struggle with “turning their brains off” before bed. To help train your mind to go to sleep, develop a ritual that you will do every night right before bed. It can be as simple as brushing your teeth, washing your face, reading for 10 minutes, sipping water, and then bed. You can incorporate whichever elements you want into your ritual, but the focus is to keep it consistent. If you know that listening to recorded nature sounds before bed helps you fall asleep, add it into your ritual. By eliminating as many unnecessary choices as possible, you allow yourself to always know what to do right before bed. Once you begin your ritual, your mind will subconsciously prepare itself for rest—which will mean getting the best beauty sleep for you!

Curate your environment

Realistically, we can’t all have floor to ceiling windows overlooking the ocean to create our most peaceful sleeping environments. We can, however, add simple and thoughtful touches to our sleeping area to make us feel comfortable. Whether it’s adding a vase with flowers, a painting that signifies peace, or twinkling lights over the doorway, there are lots of ways to make our bedroom feel like a serene space. The more relaxed we are, the more sleep we will get, and it will be the best beauty sleep.
